A development focus

Now that the election is over and everything has settled down, development has to be the focus for me as well as having a continuing relationship with the people of the electorate. This is important for growing networks and support for the 2017 elections. The aspirations of the people will always provide many opportunities to get projects under way and the best outcomes will  come from knowing the dreams of the people and planning strategies to make them a reality.

During the elections the people put some clear messages to the Maori electorate candidates and the main issues were:
  1. Domestic violence
  2. Child Poverty
  3. Housing
  4. Unemployment
  5. Inequality
  6. Education
As a Green party candidate in the Ikaroa Rawhiti electorate I got to speak with many people and was able to gauge where their hearts and minds were and their priorities, Knowing these things makes me motivated to follow through on addressing the above issues and getting a sustainable development programme under way at the same time.

Going forward I now have an opportunity to be part of developing an initiative that will create jobs, a better environment and serve as a tauira for whanau and community development and I want it to be successful. Watch this space!

Mauri ora!
